Dennis Kountz joined The Battery Innovation Center of Indiana (BIC) in December 2024 as a Technical Fellow and Director of Education and Workforce Training. Dennis received an AB degree in Physics & Chemistry from Wittenberg University, and MS and PhD degrees in Physical Chemistry from the Ohio State University followed by an MBA degree from Pfeiffer University. He rose through multiple technical, marketing and management positions in DuPont’s fibers & composites, high temperature superconductivity and fuel cells businesses. He was a visiting scientist for five years at the Carolinas Medical Center. He also led the team that won the 2008 U.S. DoD Wearable Power Prize. After 31 years at DuPont, he joined Chemours in 2015 continuing his DuPont codes & standards work on fluoropolymer materials utilized in communications, semiconductor, and energy application areas. Dennis led the Open Innovation process for Chemours battery efforts in its recently launched Electric Vehicle Venture and notably secured $5 million in funding with the US Army for battery cell capacity increase and safety improvements project to start in 2024. He continues to be a named subject matter expert for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances being examined by various international standards bodies.
